Space Station Live: Getting a U.S. Spacesuit Ready for a Spacewalk

Expedition 38 Flight Engineer Mike Hopkins downlinked a video description of a U.S. spacesuit Jan. 4. Hopkins and NASA astronaut Rick Mastracchio conducted two spacewalks just before Christmas to replace an ammonia pump module.

Hopkins talks about the lengthy preparation to get ready for a spacewalk. He also shows some of the equipment necessary to operate a spacesuit during a spacewalk. The technical name for a spacesuit is Extravehicular Mobility Unit, or an EMU.
